Italy: Friday

We flew to Italy on a Thursday, so we arrived on Friday morning.  Upon our arrival in Italy, we were tired and hungry BUT we had to rush, rush, rush because we had an appointment for a tour at 11:45!  Before we left, David and I thought about the best way to get from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the tour to be the most economical with our time.  We decided to hop on a shuttle from the airport to our hotel, and then take public transportation from the hotel to the tour.  Our time started to tick away, and it was hilarious when David attempted to ask our shuttle driver how much more time we had until our arrival at the hotel because the driver just looked at him and handed him a tour brochure.

Eventually we got to the Scavi tour at the Vatican (excavations below) and we were 15 minutes late.  Unfortunately they let others take our place in the tour, so we missed it.  Luckily, though, they allowed us to join a tour later that afternoon so we got to see St. Peter's tomb below the Vatican, which was an amazing experience.

I am happy to be at the Scavi tour
After that, we decided to look in St. Peter's Basilica and climb the steps to the top of the dome.
Here we are at the top:
The gorgeous view of Vatican city and Rome:

Our view of the dome after we climbed, climbed, climbed:
After we finished at the Vatican, we returned to our hotel and went out to eat.  We were so exhausted that we had no trouble falling asleep that night!

I remember that long long climb to the top of St. Peters in Rome, but wasn't that view spectacular. I only went because of peer pressure from Mary's kids. It can happen at any age. I was so glad I did it.
